In one of the other threads, I even mentioned that I tested the AVCHD and XAVC codecs from the new FW upgrade (RX10) to make sure they could be imported into iMovie. I advised updating iMovie and learning how to use it, as other people don't seem to have the problems you're having. There are two just on this forum (or maybe it's the Cybershot forum), and I didn't advise reinstalling iMovie that was another poster.

MP4 and AVCHD are both container file types for the same H.264 compression format. I can use MPEG 4 but I have read that this is not as good, is this correct. I ultimately want to show on 55" TV and play through Apple TV if possible I am using imovie 9 but imovie 11 also doesn't say it supports AVCHD, the files were recorded in 50i on a Sony RX10. Yet on tube there are several videos showing you how to import, any advise much appreciated. So I still had the files on my camera so I imported them again into a folder but yet again imovie doesn't recognise them as they are greyed out! Started again but now the clips are greyed out and I can't import any!!!!! Sending me mad. Then I realised I didn't tick the quality box so I decided to start again, and I deleted the event and clips. I had already imported them a few days ago and started to get to grips with imovie as I had never used it before, so I played about with a bit of editing. OMG I spent hours yesterday trying to import AVCHD files into imovie 9.
